I have to upgrade so I can get Windows 7 and am looking for something that will last me 4 to 5 years. They are very good at handling many concurrent transactions, which makes them great for web servers, application servers, database servers, but means they are not optimum for AutoCAD. Cad is essentially a single-threaded application, that only does one thing at a time, and then goes to the next thing.

Now the error rate of normal RAM is so low that you'll never observe it in a desktop, just the occasional cosmic ray flipping a single bit. That matters for a database server handling thousands of concurrent users, but not for a CAD operator. The i5 seems to be the optimum choice right now, for speed, flexibiklity, and price.

It will work, but you're spending money on things you can't use. Why spend money on a core processor when you can only use 1 of them?

They are smaller vendors, and can at least spell CAD. So I guess what I would like to know is what is your ideal spec?

Connected my speakers to this an all of a sudden I had two playback devices available when previously I had none. I then had the option to update the software for the integrated sound card not on the HD and hey presto had sound!
